Frequently Asked Questions

Your questions about the JUCO path

What are junior colleges?

Junior college (JUCO) is a two-year college system in the United States that allows student-athletes to compete while developing academically and athletically. JUCO programs compete at a high level and provide opportunities for scholarships, playing time, and exposure to NCAA coaches. Many athletes use junior college as a pathway to transfer to four-year universities and continue their academic and athletic careers at a higher level.

How do I start the process?

You can start by reaching out and submitting your athletic and academic information, along with any game clips you have available. From there, we evaluate your profile and begin building opportunities with junior college programs that match your level and goals.

Who do you work with?

We work with student-athletes who are preparing to compete at the junior college (JUCO) level. This typically includes Grade 10 and 11 students who are beginning to explore JUCO opportunities, as well as Grade 12 students who are actively going through the recruiting process. In Quebec, this includes Secondary 5 students exploring JUCO options and CEGEP athletes who are actively going through the recruiting process. We also work with current JUCO athletes looking to transfer to NCAA programs.

Do I need to be a top player to get recruited?

No. Junior college programs recruit a wide range of athletes, not just top-ranked players. Coaches look at potential, work ethic, athletic ability, and fit within their program. JUCO is a pathway for many different levels of athletes to continue developing and to compete at the next level.

Do I need a highlight video?

Yes. A highlight video is one of the most important tools in the recruitment process. College coaches use video to evaluate athletes, especially international recruits they cannot watch live. A strong highlight video can be the first step toward getting noticed by the right programs. Our team helps you create a professional highlight video that highlights your strengths and gives coaches the information they need to evaluate your potential.

How long does the process take?

The recruitment process can take anywhere from a few weeks to several months depending on your sport, level, and timing. Athletes who start earlier usually have more options and better opportunities, so it’s recommended to begin the process as early as possible.

Can I get a scholarship?

Yes, many junior colleges offer both athletic and academic scholarships depending on the sport, program, and student qualifications. Scholarships can range from partial to full.

  • Division 1 JUCO: Can offer full scholarships (tuition and course fees, room and board, course-related books, etc.)
  • Division 2 JUCO: Partial scholarships (tuition and fees, but no room and board covered)
  • Division 3 JUCO: No athletic scholarships but academic scholarships are available

How much does it cost to attend a JUCO as a Canadian athlete?

On average, junior colleges cost about $15,000 to $25,000 USD per year, including tuition, housing, and food. Many athletes also receive athletic or academic scholarships that can reduce or fully cover these costs.

Most student-athletes spend two years at a JUCO before transferring to an NCAA program, creating a more affordable pathway to complete a four-year degree. In comparison, NCAA four-year universities typically cost $25,000 to $60,000+ USD per year, depending on the institution and available scholarship opportunities.

Are there Canadian players competing at the JUCO level?

Yes. Many Canadian athletes compete in the NJCAA each year across a variety of sports. For example, more than 450 Canadian baseball players compete in JUCO each year, making it a proven pathway for athletes looking to develop their skills and advance to higher levels of competition.

Do you guarantee placement in a junior college?

No. Like all recruiting services, we cannot guarantee placement, as final decisions are made by college programs and admissions offices. However, we stay involved throughout the recruiting process and continue working to help each athlete find the right opportunity.

Can I transfer my credits from a junior college to a Canadian university?

In many cases, yes. Credits earned at a junior college may transfer to Canadian universities, depending on the institution and program. Credit transfer decisions are always made by the university, so athletes should check directly with the schools they are interested in attending.

For students who choose not to pursue a four-year university degree, some junior college programs can also provide career-ready skills and allow graduates to enter the workforce directly into fields such as nursing, business, and automotive technology.

How many years can I play in the NCAA after playing JUCO?

Many student-athletes who spend two years at an NJCAA college may still have up to three years of NCAA eligibility after transferring under the NCAA’s current eligibility model. Eligibility depends on factors such as your age, enrollment timeline, and NCAA requirements. We help every athlete understand how these rules apply to their individual situation.
